Swimming Lessons in Southeastern CT, at The VAT!
The Vitale Aquatic & Tennis swim instructors are excited to teach your kids about swimming and water safety, regardless of level! Our instructors have been trained to teach to the level of the child, provide constant feedback, and to ensure that each student is introduced to the fundamentals of each skill being taught before being asked to master it and move on to the next skill. The VAT swimming lesson instructors use a progressive technique method of instruction. Mastery of basics skills are necessary before advancing to the next level.
Level 1 (Starfish) – Swimming Lessons
Ages 18 months to 4 years old
Water exploration begins here! This level is for children who are ready to learn basic swimming skills in a group setting. We will be practicing flutter kicks, blowing bubbles, assisted floating and basic arm motions. The main goal for this group is to break down the barriers of swim related apprehension. Our hopes are that your child will leave this group with a knowledge of water safety and the purpose of lifeguards, the ability to kick, assisted float and the comfort of submerging ears, mouth, nose and face into the water for any brief amount of time.
Level 2 (Jellyfish)
Ages 5 to 6 years old
Children at this level will explore deeper into floating skills and making forward progress in the water. New skills such as gliding, rotary arm movement, proper water breathing, and bobbing will be introduced during this session. The end goal for this group will be to see any amount of unassisted forward progress, the ability to roll from a front to back float and vise-versa, and the beginnings of unassisted floating.
*Children should already be comfortable in the water and able to submerge their head for any amount of time before entering this class.
Level 3 (Flying Fish)
Ages 6-8 years old
Swimmers will reach new heights during this level, given that they have built up a substantial amount of confidence in the water. Instructors will be focusing on technique for freestyle and backstroke skills as well as introducing new skills like a kneeling dive in deep water. The goal for this group is leave with the ability to swim freestyle and backstroke past the flags to an instructor, tread water for at least 15 seconds, and lay ground work for rotary breathing.
*Children should be comfortable with the idea of unassisted floating before entering this class.
Level 4 (Sea Horse)
Ages 8 and older
Hold your breath, your swimmer is almost at the top of their game! In Sea Horse, we will be perfecting your swimmer’s technique in freestyle, backstroke, bilateral breathing and streamlines. They will learn the fundamentals of breaststroke by breaking down both the kick and pull and the butterfly kick and stroke will be introduced. By the end of the session, swimmers should be able to swim freestyle and backstroke 15 yards, tread water for 30 seconds and perform a standing dive in deep water.
*Children should have basic freestyle and backstroke skills already in place upon entering this group.
Private Swimming Lessons In CT
Private lessons are a great way to get your kiddo (or you!) swimming quickly. Though children often learn better in group lessons, private lessons can be valuable when:
- A child needs one-on-one time to become comfortable enough in the water for group
- Scheduling does not allow for group lessons
- A child has special needs and will benefit from one-on-one lessons
- A child or adult is too old for group lessons
The instructors will contact you directly to set up a time suitable towards your needs. You will fill out a quick form and be contacted by an instructor. Private lessons must be paid in full prior to the lesson.
