About Vitale Aquatic & Tennis

Vitale Aquatics & Tennis is the new home of Thames Aquatic Club!

Thames Aquatic Club was founded by The Vitale Family in 2009 as a USA Registered competitive swim team. Because of the extensive swim history of the Vitale’s, a thriving, competitive swim environment was re-energized in Southeastern Connecticut. Hundreds of swimmers passed through the doorway of Connecticut College to begin their swimming careers at TAC. Now, 10 years later, the Vitale’s have found the need for a new facility!

The newest athletic facility in Ledyard is not only the home of Thames Aquatic Club, but is also the home of Top Dogs, the newest, juniors’ tennis team in Southeastern Connecticut.

Various aquatics and tennis programs are featured at The VAT. Open swim and fee free court reservation for first hour (singles)and hour and one half (doubles) is available for members only.

In addition to aquatics and tennis, The VAT offers yoga programming; not in a studio, but outdoors in a peaceful, earthy environment! Members are able to connect with their inner self and nature to totally relax, refresh and renew.

The VAT is a place for families to gather, swimmers to swim, players to play tennis and individuals to unwind with a relaxing class of yoga!

Meet The Team At Vitale Aquatic & Tennis

John Vitale, Owner/Director of Tennis

Progression training has been a staple of John’s athletic philosophy since the early 1980s. As a professional tennis player and USPTR certified instructor, and after training with world renowned Dennis Vandermer in Hilton Head South Carolina, John brought his professional athletic experiences to Connecticut where he took a position as Director of the Copper Valley Swim and Tennis Club in Cheshire, CT. He then went on to become the Director of Operations at the Rocky Hill Tennis and Fitness Center and Sugar Hollow Tennis Club located in Ridgefield, CT. John developed successful training programs for all levels of athletes at each of these clubs. These same training strategies have been employed at Thames Aquatic Club and  will now be continued at Vitale Aquatic & Tennis to produce top level athletes.

Anne Vitale, Owner/Director of Aquatics

In 2015, Anne identified the need for a facility in southeastern Connecticut for families to get away to, spend time together, and participate in quality aquatic and tennis programming.  After building Thames Aquatic Club as the place to learn the nuances of competitive swimming; where top swimmers in the area have emerged from, Anne felt it was time to provide that facility for individuals and families and Vitale Aquatic & Tennis was formed.

With 20 years of coaching swimmers from the beginner level to the elite level, Anne brings the same preparation philosophy to the floors of The VAT.  Anne holds certifications in USA Swimming, American Swim Coaches Association, Stroke Technique and swim instructor training.

In addition to swim coaching certifications, Anne  also is an ASFA Certified Water Aerobics Instructor and a Certified Water In Motion Instructor.
